INJECTOR

The TOP IMPLART injector is a commercially available accelerator made by AccSys-Hitachi Model PL7-003, modified according to ENEA specs

It is composed by :

· Duoplasmatron source which generates a 30 kV (max), 300 uA proton beam (limited by a diaphragm)

· RFQ 3 MeV at 425 MHz

· DTL up to 7 MeV at 425 MHz

Current is delivered in pulses (20-100 us)

Rep rate 0-200 Hz

Intensity 0 – 300 uA variable through einzel lens

IN –HOUSE UPGRADES

The Einzel lens has been completely rebuilt, and it it more stable than original. Originally it works d.c.

A 30 kV pulser has been acquired from NRT to run the Einzel Lens in pulsed mode (5 usec), in order to change voltage quickly.

The figure below shows injector pulses. By means of internal delays the starting sequence is set as follows:

DTL pulse (magenta), that has largest rise time.

RFQ pulse (blue)

Arc current (yellow)

Output DTL current (green)

Particles are present if there is the arc and RFQ. They are correctly accelerated if there is also DTL

With this delay arrangement we have about 20-40 microsecond beam pulses

A variable current beam which perfectly matches the pulse duration of the next SCDTL modules can be produced pulsing the Einzel lens a (5 microseconds)
